On January 12, 2010, a massive earthquake struck the nation of Haiti, causing catastrophic damage inside and around the capital city of Port-au-Prince. President Obama has promised the people of Haiti that "you will not be forsaken; you will not be forgotten." The United States Government has mobilized resources and manpower to aid in the relief effort. Here are some ways that you can get involved.

Financial Donations

http://www.yele.org/ Yéle Haiti is a grassroots movement that builds global awareness for Haiti while helping to transform the country through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment. Yéle’s community service programs include food distribution and mobilizing emergency relief. Ayiti Cheri!

Good Evening, All:
It is with great sadness that we learned late last night of the devastation in Haiti from a massive earthquake at 7.0 on the richter scale. In addition, there were 11 or 12 aftershocks. Our prayers go out to our Haitian brothers and sisters.

My Haitian friends have told me that there will be a meeting tonight (Wednesday, January 13, 2010) at 6pm to discuss ways in which we can provide some immediate relief. So, I am sure that by tomorrow we will be posting updated information.

IN THE MEANTIME, PLEASE BEGIN GATHERING ANY ITEMS OF CLOTHING YOU CAN SPARE TO DONATE. THEY WILL NEED EVERYTHING. Food, Fresh Water, Medical supplies, Clothing and cash to purchase other needed items that are of most immediate concern. There is no shelter and most of the Port au Prince area has been completely flattened, as has Petionville and other surrounding area.

MANY GROUPS ARE MOBILIZING TO HELP, BUT WE WILL WANT TO BE SURE THAT OUR DONATIONS GO TO A REPUTABLE DISTRIBUTION SOURCE.

WE WILL HAVE ACCURATE INFORMATION ON THE WEB SITE SOMETIME TOMORROW. IN THE MEANTIME, YOUR PRAYERS ARE NEEDED!

I have spoken with Geraud Dimanche, and he knows that some of his family is safe, though he has not been able to make contact with all of them.

Authorities at this point are suggesting that somewhere in the neighborhood of half a million people have been killed or injured. Let's pray that the numbers are exaggerated!

Information will be posted on this site, as we receive it. In the meantime, please prepare as many of your friends and family to donate as possible.

Much Love,
Penny Godboldo

Our Hearts Go Out to Those in Haiti

In light of the massive earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday, we will be directing everyone to places where they can donate everything from clothing and toiletries to money and time. Detroit Haitian community leaders are meeting tonight and we will have more information for you after that takes place. In the meantime - keep our brothers and sisters in Haiti in your prayers.
